"Marty caught a plane from New York to L.A. but unfortunately fell ill today," Spielberg told the audience. "He told me to come up here and personally apologize."
When Scorsese triumphed for outstanding directorial achievement in a dramatic series forBoardwalk Empire, Winter's Bone actress Jennifer Lawrence read a statement from the director: "'Boardwalk Empire has been one of the greatest and energizing experiences I've had in 45 years of making movies."
